GCSE Moving Images Arts – A New and Exciting Subject at St. Colman’s High School and Sixth Form!
St. Colman’s High School and Sixth Form is thrilled to offer GCSE Moving Images, a dynamic and innovative subject that opens the doors to the world of film and animation. This course, provided by CCEA, is perfect for students eager to dive into the creative and technical aspects of filmmaking—no prior experience is needed!
Over two years, students will gain a mix of theoretical knowledge and practical skills, delving into areas such as film directing, storyboarding, editing, sound, and lighting. They will also develop their analytical skills by watching and interpreting films, understanding how directors create meaning and engage audiences.

What Will Students Learn?
Year 11 and Year 12:
- Component 1: Introduction to Genre and Film Language
Students will explore the foundations of film, learning about genre, narrative, and the language of cinema. - Component 2: Practical Storyboarding
Students will design their own storyboard, developing their creativity and planning skills. - Component 3: Filmmaking
Using a script provided by CCEA, students will create their own short film, applying their knowledge of directing, editing, and sound. - Component 4: Animation
Students will be introduced to the exciting world of animation, exploring techniques to bring their ideas to life.
